Spanish Levels

Enforex

Here at Enforex, we organize our courses into 6 different Spanish language course levels, numbered 1 through 6. This structure falls under the guidelines of both the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Instituto Cervantes. Additionally, Enforex's 6 levels are perfectly compatible with the U.S. university system; therefore, you can rest assured that you will receive credits at your home school for the Spanish language courses you take in Barcelona.

Prior to your first class on the very first day of your Spanish course, we will assess your level of Spanish with a written and oral test. We will subsequently place you into the appropriate course level. Each of Enforex Barcelona's Spanish language course levels - with the exception of level 6 (Proficiency) - is further divided into sub-levels which vary from lesser to greater linguistic knowledge. This is to guarantee your placement in the Spanish course level best suited to your experience with the Spanish language.

Level 1 ("A1"): Basic

This Spanish level is for those students who are taking a Spanish language course for the very first time. Among other fundamental skills, you will learn how to form important grammatical and communicative structures in Spanish, such as greeting others, talking about yourself, giving an opinion, verb conjugations in the present tense, describing yourself and others and talking about your likes and dislikes. You will also acquire a basic understanding of Spanish culture.

Level 2 ("A2"): Elementary

This Spanish language course level targets students who have some previous knowledge of basic Spanish structures and vocabulary. You will increase your level of grammar and vocabulary and be able to express yourself in various communicative contexts. You will acquire new and useful communicative skills as well as increase your awareness of Spanish culture and society. Skills include: formation of comparisons, expression of opinions, differentiation between the verbs ser and estar, conjugation of verbs, narration in the past tense and utilization of commands.

Level 3 ("B1"): Intermediate

This Spanish course level in the Barcelona school is designed for those incoming students who already have a fairly good grasp of Spanish vocabulary as well as of some of the language's more complex grammatical structures. You will make the important transition from expressing yourself at a basic and functional level to achieving a certain degree of fluency in the language along with a greater comprehension of the Spanish way of life. By improving your understanding of both linguistic and extra-linguistic structures, you will note an improvement in your ability to effectively communicate with Spanish-speakers

Skills covered: reviewing the past and present tenses, expressing courtesy, using the conditional and future tenses, expressing wants and needs through the subjunctive, forming negative commands and expanding upon your ability to effectively express opinions.

Level 4 ("B2"): Advanced

Students at the advanced level already feel comfortable communicating in social situations and can speak with a certain degree of fluency. You will increase your ability to debate issues and express detailed options; to join phrases and sentences in a cohesive manner; and to converse about more specific topics outside the realm of typical linguistic interchanges.

Skills covered: domination of the subjunctive in all its contexts and comparing it to the indicative, utilization of periphrases, debate and narration, expression of hypotheses in the past and present, construction of the passive voice, and in-depth expression of feelings, likes and dislikes.

Level 5 ("C1"): Superior

This Spanish language course level is for incoming students who already have a solid understanding of the Spanish language and are able to communicate effectively. Students learn to express their ideas at a more abstract level by perfecting grammar skills and dominating colloquial expressions, as well as increasing their familiarity with Spanish culture.

Level 6 ("C2"): Proficiency

This final course level is for those students with a high command of the Spanish language who are looking to perfect all areas of linguistic proficiency en route to becoming fully bilingual. Course content will center on refining students' oral and written skills while developing a global perspective of Spanish culture in relation to their particular field of interest.
